Dominique Plewes travels throughout the world, conducting localized research to inform her analysis and writing. She frequently interacts with heads of state, ambassadors, senior military officials, government, business, and civil society leaders. Ms. Plewes has worked with NGOs and U.S. Commissions throughout the Middle East; this work has included countering transnational crime, and human trafficking, promoting freedom of religion, fostering civil-military operations, and building effective local governance. She has visited some of the world's most notorious refugee camps, including Camp Za'atari in Jordan and al-Hol in Syria.
In Africa, she studied one of the most effective post-conflict reconciliation programs while spending time with the senior leadership of Rwanda. She explored the intricate and complex rapprochement programs that have helped to heal the nation after one of the worst genocides in modern times. In 2022, within days of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Ms. Plewes visited the country and engaged in the process of addressing the humanitarian and logistical problems posed by moving aid into the country.
She has spent time traveling through El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala where she met with private sector, military, and government officials to discuss the root causes of migration and to assess the effectiveness of American initiatives in the region. Recently, given the rising tensions in the Indo-Pacific, Ms. Plewes met with senior Indonesian military leaders, political leaders, and business leaders to explore the challenges U.S. policy faces in the region.
Ms. Plewes has experience in conflict zones, particularly in stability operations and the establishment of legitimate local governance. She is adept at operating at all levels of government and she is effective in both presidential and village leadership settings. Ms. Plewes conducts research to impact policy and program decisions in various domains. She has a distinctive skill set that allows her to merge critical strategic, tactical, and operational information with firsthand observations. As a result, she can communicate nuanced and occasionally intricate messages to decision-makers. She is an accomplished writer and blogger and her articles have appeared in Inside Sources, Real Clear Defense, The Defense Post, National Interest, and SOFREP among others. Dominique Plewes is a member of the Defense Orientation Conference Association (DOCA), the Reagan Institute National Leadership Council, and the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA).
